A Safer Buildings program has been established to help identify buildings in Queensland that may have potentially combustible cladding.
Owners of buildings in Queensland (including apartments, townhouses and commercial buildings) may be required to register their building and complete the combustible cladding checklist.
Queensland’s Safer Buildings Program, administered by the Queensland Building Construction Commission (QBCC), provides building owners with the necessary steps to identify the presence of combustible cladding and whether this represents a cladding fire risk to their building and its occupants.
Owners of buildings that meet the legislated definition of ‘private building’ had a responsibility to comply with the program by completing the combustible cladding checklist (Checklist) by 3 May 2021. Failure to complete the Checklist is an offence and QBCC will use all avenues within its regulatory powers to ensure compliance with the Checklist.
If you’re having difficulty completing the Checklist, please see the troubleshooting tips https://www.saferbuildings.qld.gov.au/help/faqs.html
Penalties for not complying with this new law may include possible commencement of a prosecution in the Magistrates Court and voiding your building insurance policy.
