In a recent one-on-one conversation, we had the privilege of hearing from Larissa Dixon, Systems Manager at Aviso Broking.
Being with Aviso for four and a half years, Larissa shared her journey into the broking industry, shedding light on the challenges she faced and the milestones she achieved along the way.
Q: Describe your role and responsibilities within Aviso Broking.
A: As Systems Manager, my main responsibilities are administering our core operational and broking systems. I am also involved in our mergers and acquisitions (M&A) activities on the data migration side. However, my key role is as music manager in the St Leonard’s office as I am physically unable to work in silence.
Q: What inspired you to pursue a career in the broking industry?
A: I worked as a broker assistant for a few years then went on hiatus from the industry as I pursued a teaching degree and motherhood. Fast forward, I’m back in the insurance industry but on the operational side this time. Now, I can’t imagine doing anything else!
Q: Can you share a key moment or project in your career that has significantly impacted your professional growth?
A: I consider “the big merge” of May 2022 a key moment in my career. Following this, I was given the opportunity to take on the role of Systems Manager, where I have been constantly learning from the various teams on projects and M&A ever since.
Q: Walk us through a typical day in your role at Aviso Broking.
A: There is no typical day for me! Every day is different, and I love the variety. I always have several projects that I’m working on, as well as interesting issues to deal with that can arise at any time.
Q: How do you think Aviso Broking differs from other Insurance Brokers? What is our point of difference?
A: We can have fun together whilst still getting the work done, which creates a great culture. We are also lucky to be backed by Envest and The Ardonagh Group, which allows us to be at the forefront of new systems and technologies.
Larissa shared that whilst working in a demanding industry, she maintains a healthy work-life balance through gym and pilates, which she considers her stress relief. Outside of work, she loves a beach day with her two young boys. She’s also an avid reader and can easily get through 1 or 2 books per week.
FUN FACT: Larissa is a natural brunette and has been dyeing her hair copper red for almost 15 years!
