PDRL World Cup – Go Aussies!

Aviso Broking Community – Proudly supporting our customers

At Aviso Broking we proudly support our clients. Midway Metals has been a client of Aviso Broking for a number of years. Fred Wicks (Financial Controller at Midway Metals) has been with the company for 14 years and Hudson Wicks (Fred’s son) has been with Midway Metals since December 2021.

Recently Aviso Broking received great news from Fred, Tracy  and Hudson Wicks at Midway Metals. Hudson has been selected in the Australian Physical Disability Rugby League (PDRL) team!!

Hudson at 19 years of age, has been playing for the GC Titans PDRL for the past 3 years.

The Australian PDRL side will travel to England in mid-October to play in the 2022 Rugby League World Cup.

Watch Now: Gold Coast Titans Chairman Dennis Watt shares the news with Husdon (this video has been viewed over 88,000 times!).

Hudson will be part of the Australian 20-man squad plus coach, manager and support staff who will play against England, Wales & New Zealand.

The tour comprises of:

  • A training camp in Sydney
  • Return flights to the United Kingdom
  • Training in the UK
  • Tournament runs for a week
  • Home

It’s going to be a whirlwind tour and an incredible experience.

Fred and Tracy are incredibly proud of Hudson and his achievements despite his obstacles. Fred and Tracy said, “We’ve been fortunate to see the benefit that the boys and community get from having an active PDRL team on the Gold Coast. Anyone who has seen the boys (and girls) play knows the joy it brings to all involved.”

The trip has been made possible by many generous sponsors and donations. An overseas campaign of this size and duration requires a mammoth effort and support. The trip is heavily subsidised, but every dollar raised gives the team the chance to play their best and bring home the World Cup. The squad is looking for more generous donations. If you’d like to help support the Australian side, you can make a tax-deductible donation through the Australian Sports Foundation specifically for the PDRL World Cup.

What is PDRL:

Physical Disability Rugby League (PDRL) is a full contact version of the game adapted for participants with a physical disability who want to access a running version of Rugby League.

PDRL was initially developed in Australia by founder George Tonna. PDRL made its way over to the UK where Warrington Wolves and Leeds Rhinos played the first ever game of PDRL in the northern hemisphere in early 2018.

More About the Project

With your support, the Australian Physical Disability Rugby League team will be heading to England to play on the world stage later this year.

The games are part of an exhibition series that has been organised by the International Rugby League. They also form an important part of the Rugby League World Cup 2021 fixture.

More about the campaign:

  • PD Rugby League matches will be played on October 21st and October 31st, 2022 in Warrington.
  • We will be sending a team of 18 to 20 players, including 3 officials.
  • Representative players will compete against other nations with the draw to be announced soon.

The APDRL needs your help in supporting the players on the path to achieving their dream of representing their country and also showcasing this amazing sport on the world stage.

Any support that you can provide will be very much appreciated.
